If you didn’t play the original Habroxia, then you should dig out your PlayStation 4 or PS Vita and remedy that right now. Despite looking like an uneventful arcade shooter, Lillymo Games proved that it has a good command over old-school gameplay mechanics, and we found ourselves glued to this one for a good few hours in pursuit of the Platinum Trophy.
Now, the title’s getting a sequel, Habroxia 2, on the PS4 and PS Vita. Building on the original, the developer’s promising a “non-linear, old-school space shooter with upgrades, boss fights, and even New Game+, all wrapped in a retro package combining pixel graphics, chiptunes, and stellar gameplay”. There’ll be all-new boss fights, and more ship upgrades than the previous release.
The game’s due out on 3rd February on the PlayStation Store, where it’ll cost $9.99. However, if you prefer physical editions, then eastasiasoft will publish a retail release for PS4 and PS Vita, which includes an original soundtrack and printed manual. You’ll be able to pre-order that from import retailer Play Asia, from 10AM ET on 3rd December.

Day one for me because of vita support 😀
@wiiware Amazing that PS Vita is still getting new games in 2021. Kudos to Lillymo!
Yep vita support is amazing and much like twin breaker this ones written by co owner of Lillymo Colin Moriarty . This should be epic
No doubt this is also the reason it’s getting the vita love as Colins still very much on Vita island
@Unffclcntrllerpd Vita Island forever!
Now that I know there are TWO vita games I wasn't aware of (this one and the original), that's two more purchases from me.
#vitaforever !
UPDATE: just tried to purchase the first game and I'm getting error message NP-2245-3 "can't connect to the store" error message. After a quick google this is happening to others today and also over the last 5-6 years sigh
cool... I played that other game of theirs Twin Breaker the other day for thi first time... I was just expecting a typical boring game but it was very innovative and fun... definately gonna try Habroxia too
Great news, Harbroxia is certainly one of the better modern retro style shmups, if you like Gradius it is really worth getting.
@get2sammyb always , I was living admittedly in some sad little corner of the internet half convinced we’d get ps5 remote play on vita but alas and obviously not. Shame as I’m on the road quite a bit or I used to be , the vita and remote play plus the hori grip just made sense . I don’t think I’d be as invested using my phone and a dual shock
@Unffclcntrllerpd It works well on a laptop if that's an option for you.
@Steel76 Super Hydorah?
Now will there be anything as rage inducing as those quad paddle levels?
@Unffclcntrllerpd I hope their next project is 2D metroidvania games
@get2sammyb think it would have to be a Sony laptop 😂 it’s not the tech it the vibe/ecosystem I guess. Remote play was vitas most undersold feature - but I’m sure we’ve all typed that far to many times on here
@wiiware they’ve got an oldschool RPG next for development but a metroidvania from those minds would be like mana from heaven
Reminds me of r type I loved that game.
